Senior Project Reflection

1.) I'm proud that I didn't have to use any note cards and that I knew the information from the top of my head without really having to pause or think about what I was going to say. I reviewed the power point like once, and I think I did pretty decently.

2.) I think I would give myself a P+. I think I really explained my information more than thoroughly. My first activity was really engaging and I could see a lot of people had fun with it, and it explained the concept I was teaching extremely well. I really knew my information and I had all my materials prepared and ready.

For my Senior Project I think I deserve an AE-/P+. I learned a great deal of information and I'm one of the few projects where I can apply what I've learned throughout the rest of my life. My research was solid and on more than one occasion I've been told my presentations were good by more than one teacher and student. I was able to do a great independent component and my service learning was decent.

3.) The research was good. The independent learning was also pretty good. I had fun with that and learned a bit. Everything pretty much went ok. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either.

4.) Service learning. I was told by my original service learning person in december that I couldn't end up doing service learning there so I had to think fast to get service learning.

5.) I know my way around a car, so if I ever need a job, its just one more thing i can add to the resume. In terms of endeavors i don't plan on being a full time mechanic, but its still a good thing to know. It helps save money though since I know how to service my own car.

Service Learning

Literal
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkH-MKUV0FVIdDJ5VHh6d0R5d2dYX0RfRFJUZnM3Umc#gid=0
in case you couldn't read my writing

I helped my uncle with various tasks of restoring his car including pounding out dents, doing the oil changes on his car, changing tires, and helping him take apart the engine.

Interpretive
I think the most important thing I learned from my service learning was that most of the problems wrong with your car can be done by you. Most people assume that it takes a professional mechanic to fix your car when in reality it doesn't. I also learned more about how the car works and how to keep the car up to date in terms of maintenance.

Applied
Although my uncle's car is pretty old, he still keeps up with modern cars. He helped me narrow down my findings in my i-search paper. When I was stuck on what to use for my best answer he walked me through which finding would be best for my best answer. He also showed me what aspects of the car were important, and because his car was old I was able to compare the parts to newer ones on more modern cars to see how they've improved over time and how they've helped performance.

Interview 5

Blog Title: Helping 2013
I interviewed Jamilex Rodriguez
April 24, 2012 during elective

What ideas do you have for senior project and why?

1.) I'm thinking either between law or singing. I like both topics and I'm active in both, so I have to think about it, but I'm fine with either one. I don't really have a preference.

Me: Try and do something that you won't mind researching every week. Keep in mind you need service learning and independent learning, so try and pick one that's easier to pull off. Make sure to think about how you're going to get research for each topic.

What do you plan on doing for the 10hr requirement?

2.) If I decide to do singing I'll try and find an instructor and do it with him/her. I've worked in law offices before so service learning wouldn't be too hard to get if I decide to do law for my topic.

Me: Alright seems like you pretty much have that covered. Since you've worked in a law office already I think you should go for that since it seems you have access to service learning. My friend Christa did her project on singing so if you need service learning let me know. I'm pretty sure Ogden would let you use his class for an independent component so that would be easy.

3.) I want to see how they carried out their project. I think it'll be helpful for me to see how they overcame challenges, what they learned, etc. In that way, I kind of want to know what to expect once I start doing the senior project.

Me: Yeah that's always helpful. I remember watching senior presentations and I used them for reference this year whenever I think about what I might be doing for my two hour. Just pay attention to how we set up the presentation and how we tie everything back to our EQ. Also think ahead of possible ideas for science fair and research. That was a huge pain for some people's topic.

4.) It sounds like she has it pretty much figured out. The research might be a challenge but she pretty much has the service learning covered. The only thing I can tell her is to commit to a topic, but other than that I think she's good. She asked about how the EQ worked, and I just said its what we have to focus on answering the entire project. I also told her to be careful about the wording of the EQ because that affects the project later on.

Independent Component 2

I, Adrian, affirm that I have completed my independent component which represents 30 hours work.

I finished the rest of the Audi Academy. NOTE: It shows 15 out of 16 completed because the last module was a seminar that actually requires me to be an employee to qualify(first picture). To compensate for this I finished the courses on the side, which can be seen in the second picture under Advanced Course Catalog Search.

Interpretive:

The modules went through EVERY single model in the current Audi lineup and went into detail on the engine, transmission options, suspension, etc. The Advanced Section Models went into even more detail about particular parts of the car, so with that said I was able to distinguish what parts were most important to achieve maximum performance from an Audi.

Answer 3

1.) What is most important to achieve maximum performance from an Audi?
2.) Aerodynamics that reduce drag and increase down force.

3.) At over 200mph a car needs over 4000lbs of down force to keep the car from lifting.
-Drag increases the air resistance a car has, inhibiting effective power the engine can put down.
-A low center of gravity on the car keeps the air flow under the car moving smoothly, which pushes the car down. More down force makes turning easier.

Blog 20 Room Creativity

1. For the creativity assignment, I was thinking of putting up general tools used to work on Audi's and maybe some racing helmets and gloves etc. I can also see if Daly could let me borrow his car so I can have an actual live example if I needed one.

2.) For answer 1, I would explain the different types of engines and have the student's design their own engines based on the designs I've given them. From there I'd ask them questions on how they expect the engine to perform and try and match their engine designs to real world engines.

For answer 2, there is a racing simulator called Forza 4, which allows the user to control the stiffness of the ESP and chassis. Students would be able to change the stiffness, and see for themselves how balance plays a key role in overall handling.

Answer 2

EQ; What is most important to achieve maximum performance from an Audi?

Answer 2: The chassis and suspension of an Audi are essential in order to achieve maximum performance.

Evidence: When cars go through corners, the weight must be distributed adequately in order for the car to put its power down effectively.

The suspension keeps the car in contact with the road in order for the car to be able to put power down effectively.

The suspension also keeps the car from not losing the car's center of gravity, in that way the car doesn't roll over on one side with the G force produced by the car.

The Product

Throughout my Senior Project I've been learning what makes a luxury car a luxury car, as well as how to do basic maintenance on a car with my uncle. With that said, I believe that the product of my senior project is that

Product
1.)I've been able to complete basic maintenance on cars, which I never knew how to do.

How I can Apply It
I've been able to apply this at home, whether its changing oil on my mom's car or just checking the tire pressure. Its also a skill I'll be able to use the rest of my life with my future cars.I've also been able to develop a deeper understanding of luxury auto mobiles as well as how much effort goes into small details in an Audi, and if I ever buy a luxury car, I'll know what features to look for and how to properly maintain it.

Blog 16

1. For my independent component I plan on completing the Audi Academy. If I finish ahead of time I'll finish the rest with my Uncle(service learning)
2. To meet the 30 hour requirement, I will finish the modules remaining on the Audi Academy website. If I have time left over I'll work with my uncle to make up the extra time by helping him do basic maintenance
such as oil changes, brake changes, tire pressure, tune ups etc.
3.The Audi Academy helps me answer my EQ because the Academy goes through each individual model and every single specification regarding performance. With that said, I have been more than knowledgeable in my 20 minute presentation with the information presented and from that I'll be able to determine what parts of the car affect the performance the most.

"I Adrian Gonzalez affirm that I have completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work . "

The Audi Academy website has helped me a lot on my path to learn more about Audi. The Academy has lessons on each model, as well as how Audi was started, the sales process, and how Audi carries itself on a global market. The fact that they go over each car's transmission, engine, suspension, leather, quality, and technology has helped me in answering "What is most important to achieve maximum performance from an Audi?"

Answer 1

1. The first answer to answering my essential question, "What is most important to achieve maximum performance from an Audi", is the engine. The engine is literally the heart of the car, and having a good engine for a car determines the rest of the cumulative performance of the car.

2. The 2.0 liter Audi TFSI engine produces 211 hp and 258 lb/ft of torque at @1500 rpm. In plain English, this means that the car produces its maximum torque as soon as you put your foot down on the gas, unlike other cars who produce their maximum torque until the 5000-7000 rpm. This explosive torque helps get the car off the line extremely fast and as soon as possible.

Service Learning

1. I'm working in my uncle's garage for service learning.
2. I've basically been helping my uncle out with keeping his car in tune. He's showed me how to change the oil, how to determine how many cylinders an engine has, tire pressure, and how to change the oil filter. I've also helped him install new seats so I'm getting an idea of how the interior is set up as well. Basic A-Z.

I-Poly ESLR

Throughout Senior Project, I think my two strongest ESLR's are effective user of tech and life-long learner.

I feel I've been good as an effective user of tech because of the quality of my research. I've been able to find research and extremely specific parts of Audi's, such as the Audi Space Frame, Anti-Lock Braking Systems, etc. It might not be as obvious, but Audi uses extremely high tech features in each of its cars, and I've been able to recognize some of the most important but not recognized features.

I also feel I've been good as a life-long learner. What I'm learning about cars is going to be relevant the rest of my life. I'll be able to do my own car maintenance and I'll be able to know my car well enough so the mechanic won't rip me off. My service learning is in my opinion a strong source of life-long learning.
