Presentation Reflection

1.) My first interview was very beneficial toward my first presentation. I asked Kevin, my interviewee, some questions off the record, which included the difference between a manual and automatic transmission. For example he explained to me how the gears work in a transmission, and when I went on the internet later on to figure out how a transmission works, I already knew the basic principles, which made it much easier.

2.)I think what stood out about my presentation was the fact that I stayed calm the entire time and I knew how to explain the transmission well enough for someone who didn't know anything about transmissions would get the basic principles. I think my props also stood out as well. They were very good props that gave a clear representation of what I was talking about. For example the steering wheel with the paddles shifters and the board with a clutch, gas, and brake pedal were very similar to real life equivalents.

3.)I think the most challenging thing to do was to find a way to represent the lay shaft and the gears, but I was able to represent them with a bar and the screws you put at the end of dumbells to keep them from falling off. It was hard to find something that looked a lot like the lay shaft.

Senior Project Presentation 1

Objective: For my 5 minute presentation students will learn the difference between a car

with a manual transmission and an automatic transmission.

Procedure:

1. Good afternoon, today for my five minute presentation I will be discussing the difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission.

2. Ok so does anyone know how to drive a manual transmission car?

3. From there I’ll introduce how the clutch works in a transmission.

4. I’ll brig them a steering wheel with a paddle shit gear box to show them the type of

clutches Audi uses, or show them pictures of an automatic and manual transmission to

discuss the differences.

*5. After that I’ll show them a 10 second clip on a car revving up and showing them the correct amount of revolutions that need to be achieved before shifting.

6. Check and see if the class understood the presentation.

7. End the presentation.

Check For Understanding

To check for understanding I’ll randomly call on someone and ask them to tell me the

difference between a car with manual transmission and an automatic transmission, or ask

a particular row to tell me specific differences between a car with an automatic

transmission as compared to a car with a manual transmission.

Resources/Materials
1.Steering wheel with paddle shift gearboxes.
-Paddle shift gearboxes are gearboxes that require very minimal movement as compared to a standard “stick shift” gearbox. It saves time which is why it is only used in high performance cars. Such as the Audi R8.
*2.Possible video of a car revving in order to show when its necessary to shift.
-Showing a car revving is important so students can understand when the engine needs another gear. Most people our age that drive an automatic don’t realize the car shifts gears.
*3.Pictures of the internal workings of the transmission.
Pictures of both types of transmission show the differences in the cars and allow students to draw distinctions between the two types of transmissions.

Interview Check

For my first interview I will be interviewing my aunt, who used to work as a saleswoman at an Audi dealer. She worked at the Audi dealer for two years and is familiar with the company.
Five additional questions I would ask her is:
1.)Why did you choose to work at Audi?
2.)What makes Audi's cars so special?
3.)How does Audi compare to other German cars?
4.)What do the 4 rings mean?
5.)What is the best way to approach a first time customer at Audi?

Research

For my Senior Topic, I chose Audi. I chose Audi because it is one of the most well known car manufacturers in the world known for its vehicles which combine high performance and luxury. I have always been a car enthusiast, but Audi was a company I didn't know a lot about.
I chose Audi as my Senior Topic in an attempt to learn more about the company and the cars it manufactures. At the end of my Senior Project, I will hope to have accomplished a new perspective of Audi as a company, from the cars it manufacturers to how the business runs.
